Guangzhou boasts an extensive modern railway network system linking the city with the rest of China. It serves as the main express railway hub connecting Northern and Southern China. The Beijing-Guangzhou express railway directly links with the national express rail highways of Beijing-Shenyang', Beijing-Chengde, Beijing-Baotou, Beijing-Shanghai Beijing-Yuanping Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan, Shijiazhuang-Dezhou, Lianyungang-Lanzhou, Zhejiang-Ganzhou, Hunan-Sichuan , Hunan-Guangxi, Kowloon-Canton, etc.; and what's more, the Guangzhou-Maoming and Guangzhou-Shantou lines (which join both the east and western regions of Guangdong Province) are now linked into China's great national express railway highway.
There are four railway stations in Guangzhou; Guangzhou Railway Station, Guangzhou East Railway Station, Guangzhou North Railway Station and Guangzhou South Railway Station.
In the future, Guangzhou will promote the construction of a transportation network, with Guangzhou South Station as its core hub, comprising inter-city railways, intra-city railways and high-speed railways such as Nanning-Guangzhou railway, Guiyang-Guangzhou railway, Guangzhou-Zhuhai railway and Guangzhou-Shenzhen railway. Such a railway network will connect the neighboring cities outside Guangdong Province with Baiyun Airport, Nansha Port, and important zones of Urban Development inside the Province.
According to the transportation department of Guangzhou, an open and interconnected inter-city railway network covering the Pearl River Delta will be built, making Guangzhou the center of one-hour-distance circle in the Pearl River Delta. Currently, 11 planned inter-city railways pass through Guangzhou, with a total length of 326 kilometers in the city, and inter-connect with Guangzhou Railway Station, Baiyun International Airport, Guangzhou South Station, Nanshan Port and other major transportation nodes
