Summer guide: explore delicacies and upcoming events in Yuexiu District of Guangzhou
Update: 2024-07-16     Source: GDToday

As the summer vacation season kicks off, the city is expecting a travel peak and launching a series of offline events to boost local consumption.

Yuexiu District, the long-standing "commercial hub" of Guangzhou since its foundation, has come to the fore with the release of a foodie's guide and exciting upcoming events for the summer.

With the arrival of "Chufu" and the scorching heat, the most important thing for local residents is finding ways to stay cool. The trick here is to try to stay indoors and have a taste of the cold yet delicious tong sui, which literally means "sugar water," a type of Cantonese dessert.

Here’s the guide:

Take the special sightseeing bus line

On July 13, a special sightseeing bus line was put into trial operation. Integrating "Cantonese cuisine+popular city landmarks+Cantonese Culture," this bus service provides local residents and tourists with a diverse service experience.

The interior design of the bus showcases the charms of Cantonese culture, and the second floor, with its transparent windows and roof, offers the best spot for taking a selfie and enjoying the beautiful night view.

The bus departs from Hotel Landmark Canton and connects nearly 20 scenic spots in the city, including Haizhu Square, Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, Nanyue King Museum, and Tianzi Wharf.

Moreover, it also offers morning tea service to passengers, allowing tourists to enjoy delicious dim sum while the bus shuttles between these scenic spots.

Enjoy delicacies at Guangzhou Baiyun Hotel

From July 11 to August 11, Guangzhou Baiyun Hotel will join forces with Donghu Hotel Shanghai to launch a gastronomic journey through time and space.

For those eager to try the local specialty of Shanghai, this is truly a rare opportunity in Guangzhou. Located at No. 70 Donghu Road, the Donghu Hotel Shanghai was once the residence of Shanghai tycoon Du Yuesheng. After a century of change, it has become even more elegant and beautiful, showcasing its international style.

The food culture of Shanghai has also experienced several stages of development. From the 1980s to the 1990s, Shanghai cuisine gradually pivoted towards a more diverse direction, combining culinary elements from Jiangsu, Zhejiang, the rest of the country, and even the whole world.

Shopping at Guangzhou Friendship Store

From July 13 to 14, and July 19 to 21, the Guangzhou Friendship Store will host a series of promotional festivities in the Huanshidong business circle to inject more vitality into this summer.

There will be various outdoor mini-sports events, food fairs, evening parties, and splendid live shows. Inside the mall, you can find magic contests and children's talent shows. All of these activities aim to engage both adults and kids equally, bringing joy to everyone.

During these events, Guangzhou Friendship Store will also offer customers a 50 percent discount on most of the products, and VIP customers can receive three-time or five-time credits. Additionally, those who have purchased home appliances here can enjoy the old-for-new service.

Next, Yuexiu District will launch more than 30 consumption activities during the summer, featuring delicacies, music, and open-air bazaars. Don't miss out on them during your stay in Guangzhou!
