Baiyun Airport welcomes its first passenger route from South America
Update: 2024-07-04     Source: Yangcheng Evening News

At 11:50 AM on June 30th, a Venezuelan Conviasa Airlines A340 aircraft, departing from the capital of Venezuela, arrived at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. This marks the airport's first passenger route connecting directly with South America. The route is scheduled to commence commercial operations in October this year, with two planned routes: Guangzhou to Caracas, with stopovers in Moscow and Porlamar, and Guangzhou to Caracas, with stopovers in Moscow and Havana.

On the occasion of celebrating the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Venezuela, Conviasa Airlines launched a Caracas-Moscow-Guangzhou flight route. This initiative aims to significantly enhance personnel exchanges and promote comprehensive development in economic, trade, logistics, tourism, and other fields between the two countries.

H.E. Mr. Giuseppe Yoffreda, Venezuelan ambassador to China, stated during a promotional event in Guangzhou that a significant portion of Venezuela's Chinese comes from Guangdong Province. The new flight route from Caracas to Guangzhou aims to facilitate travel between the two countries. "Venezuela is negotiating tourism cooperation agreements with China and designing multiple travel routes for Chinese tourists. We hope this new flight will promote bilateral relations in tourism and the economy between the two countries."

Qi Yaoming, Vice General Manager of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Co., Ltd, expressed that Guangdong Province is China's largest provincial economy, and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport is one of China's three major international aviation hubs. Conviasa Airlines' decision to choose Guangzhou as its gateway into China will offer greater convenience for business, culture, tourism, and family visiting travelers between the two countries. It is also expected to further facilitate the flow of goods.

It is reported that Guangzhou's international flight network is rapidly expanding, with destinations increasing, facilitating travel for both domestic and international passengers. Since 2023, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport has added, restored, and increased frequency on over 100 international and regional passenger routes. This June, Guangzhou launched several new international and regional routes, including Guangzhou to London Gatwick, Guangzhou to Budapest, and Guangzhou to Istanbul.

As of now, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport serves over 230 domestic and international destinations, with approximately 1,500 weekly round-trip international and regional flights. Starting from July, there will be additional flights added to routes from Guangzhou to cities such as Paris, Amsterdam, Nairobi, and Auckland, as well as resuming the route to Perth.
