According to the Guangzhou Museum of Art (GZMA), its new venue in Haizhu District will officially open to the public on November 30, marking a new chapter in its 66-year history. Starting from 9:00 am on November 27, visitors can make reservations via the museum's official WeChat account.
The new venue was jointly designed by Herzog & Partners Asia Limited, South China University of Technology, and Guangdong Province Architectural Design and Research Institute, with the theme of "Blooming Kapok in Water." Covering a total area of nearly 80,000 square meters, it is the first public building to use photovoltaic technology on all five facades.
At present, the museum boasts over 33,000 pieces (sets) in its collection, highlighting Lingnan paintings and calligraphic works. In preparation for the new venue's unveiling, GZMA has also solicited many artworks from artists across China, including Chinese paintings, oil paintings, calligraphy, lacquer paintings, and sculptures.
Following the inauguration, special exhibitions will showcase over 1,100 pieces from GZMA's collections, more than 200 artworks from other museums, as well as approximately 500 documentary exhibits for the public after the opening, spotlighting both ancient and contemporary Chinese fine arts.
Furthermore, the museum will feature two digital exhibition halls and an online art museum. Visitors can better appreciate the exhibits through virtual human and 3D modeling technologies.
