Guangzhou and Shenzhen, cities of south China's Guangdong Province, will operate overnight high-speed railway trains for 11 days, in a contingent arrangement, to cope with a travel surge during the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday, according to the China Railway Guangzhou Group Co., Ltd.

The overnight high-speed railway trains will run 11 days from Thursday to Oct. 9 (Oct. 3 excluded). The Guangzhou South Railway Station has planned to add 425 overnight high-speed railway trains to its regular timetable, and the Shenzhen railway will run 168 overnight high-speed railway trains.
The upcoming holiday season is estimated to see over 8.61 million passengers departing from or arriving at the Guangzhou South Railway Station, up 63.1 percent year on year and up 9.8 percent compared to the same period of 2019, according to Wang Haichun, spokesperson of the station.
A total of 251,000 and 276,000 passengers departed from Shenzhen North Railway Station on Wednesday and Thursday, an increase of 22.25 percent and 26.74 percent, respectively, from the same period of 2019, according to Liu Yang, the head of the station, adding the traffic is on an upward trend.
The Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday period, lasting from Sept. 29 to Oct. 6 this year, is a peak travel and tourism season in China.
