On August 23, a piano concert featuring Canadian-Chinese pianist Tony Yike Yang and nearly 100 piano students and teachers from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) was held at the Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou.
Hailed by CBC Music as one of Canada's finest young musicians, Yang first rose to international acclaim at the age of 16 after becoming the youngest-ever laureate in the history of the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. In 2018, he was appointed Youth Cultural Ambassador to the city of Guangzhou.
After presenting several representatives of Frédéric Chopin, Yang played several excerpts of classical music pieces with young students and teachers from the GBA together, winning ovations from audiences. "They all played very well and it was a pleasure to cooperate with them," Yang said.
Yang also noted that the GBA is full of artistic atmosphere. "I heard that many top artists at home and abroad like Martha Argerich will perform in Guangzhou, and many high-level concert halls are located here," he furthered, "It's inspiring for me whenever I visit the GBA."
