To reduce the cross-infection in hospitals and help control the spread of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, a number of hospitals in Guangzhou are offering online medical consultation for residents. Health officials recommend non-emergency patients to use this internet service for consultation and prescription instead of visiting hospitals.
Some hospitals even offer discounts for online consultation on various diseases, while others provide free consultation on novel coronavirus only.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University 中山大学孙逸仙纪念医院
Through the hospital’s cell phone application (逸仙互联网医院APP), patients can enjoy 50 percent off from February 10 to the end of the epidemic when consulting a doctor online by words and pictures, or posting a query to a doctor via a live-stream video. The words and pictures consultations cost 10 to 30 yuan, and video consultations cost 100 to 300 yuan. The service is available before noon, with no limitation on the number of patients.
Only patients in follow-up visits currently are allowed to be prescribed drugs through video consultation in Guangdong province. The costs of the drugs are not covered by social medical insurance. Patients can have the drugs delivered to their homes or purchase them at a drugstore with a prescription.
