The Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway, the longest one in Guangdong Province, is expected to operate this year. By then, it will only take 90 minutes to travel between the central urban areas of these two cities.
According to the 2025 Guangzhou government work report, this year Guangzhou will promote the construction of ongoing projects, including four national railways, eight intercity railways, and nine subways. Specifically, the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway, the Guangzhou-Foshan East Ring Intercity Railway, the Pazhou Branch Line of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Intercity Railway, as well as Guangzhou Metro Line 10, the eastern and western sections of Metro Line 12, and the second phase of Metro Line 14 will be completed and put into service.

Starting from the Guangzhou Railway Station, the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway serves as a crucial link among the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Beibu Gulf Urban Agglomeration, and the Hainan Free Trade Port, connecting seven cities including Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangjiang, Maoming and Zhanjiang.
The completion of this project will significantly shorten the time and space distance between the western Guangdong region and the GBA.
